Maintenance and replacement:
- Regular visual inspection: Examine the Teflon spacer for signs of wear, warping, or discoloration. Even though Teflon is highly durable, it can wear down with repeated thermal cycling and exposure to aggressive chemicals. Replace the Teflon spacer if it shows significant wear, warping, or discoloration, or if it is no longer providing proper spacing between components.
- Check for cracks: Look for cracks or deformation, especially if you’ve observed any alignment issues or abnormal performance with sample introduction system. If you notice leaks, poor alignment, or performance issues in the torch assembly, this could indicate that the Teflon spacer has become cracked or otherwise compromised.
