Introduction
E²E is a project created by several Supply Chains, from our transport to purchasing staff, committed to improving packaging conditions using recyclable materials to reinforce our company’s CRS policy.
On this page, you'll discover the different projects that we’ve set up to meet environmental expectations, and how we're striving to enhance our customer experience through our eco-friendly packaging.
Our Story
What was the origin of our E²E project and how it led us to embark on this adventure?
The project began in June 2023 with the creation of our E²E (Ecology, Economy and Packaging) team. The team was made up of 4 French Horibariens working at our Loos and Palaiseau sites: Emmanuelle, Laurine, Marc and Marco. At the outset of this project, each of them made several distinct observations:
Environmental impact: HORIBA uses a lot of non-recyclable plastics, polystyrene chips and sealing tape in its packaging, which has had a negative impact on the environment.
Visual impact: packaging methods do not reflect and contribute to the high added value of our products.
What was the aim of the E²E project?
We created the E²E project to reduce unnecessary non-recyclable plastics and over-packaging, with the aim of reducing our carbon footprint. In addition, we wanted to enhance the value of our products through a more harmonious and eco-friendly packaging.
Our philosophy is based on the 3R rule: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.
Reduce:
- Carbon impact
- Plastic materials
- Over-packaging
Reuse:
- Recycled paper
- Reusable packaging
Recycle:
- Use of recycled materials
- Biosourced materials
Our customers
Our customers operate in fields with a strong technological or scientific component. We have two main types of customers: the industrial sector, including major industrial leaders, and the academic sector, amidst universities and research centers. Today, we work in three different fields of application:
HORIBA France places at the heart of its activities the understanding of our customers’ needs in these three fields of application, to respond to their problems with solutions.

Our achievements
Take a look at some of our achievements in meeting the objectives of this E²E project.
1/ The BOX
As a first step, we developed a box model to meet our required specifications:
- Double-flute corrugated boxes: no more over-packaging.
- Integrated adhesive: no more sealing tape.
- 100% recycled and recyclable boxes.
- Addition of repositionable inserts to reduce non-eco-friendly polystyrene chips.
- Cartons locally sourced near our warehouses in France, lowering the carbon imprint on transport and supporting local businesses.
This BOX has become one of our standard packaging items. We've also reworked the boxes visuals, adding environmental pictograms and a QR code to give you more information on our team's numerous projects.
This is just the beginning of our ecological responsible changes... Our aim is to move towards "zero plastic".
2/ LabRAM Odyssey case
In a second phase, we worked on one of HORIBA's flagship products to reduce its environmental impact: The LabRAM Odyssey Transport Case.
To achieve this, we rethought the type of packaging for the instrument, as well as the choice of chosen materials. This led to a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions per crate, a 5-fold reduction in storage surface area and a reduction in crate weight, all of which facilitates the work of our logistics team.
As an added bonus for our customers, the packaging cover can be reused by the customer as a protective cover for their instrument.
Our projects
We are currently working on around thirty packaging-related projects (use of new, innovative materials, creation of new concepts for instrument cases, packaging and more.).
We'll keep you regularly updated on the progress of these projects on this page.
