Presentation of Xavier Le Coz
Xavier Le Coz: Manager of the Analytical Solution Plaza application laboratory
Xavier Le Coz is the Manager of the “Analytical Solution Plaza” application laboratory at our center of excellence in Palaiseau, at HORIBA France. He is also an application engineer for our EMIA/EMGA line of gas analyzers. As part of his duties, he oversees the organization of the application laboratory to host our customers for sample analysis and demonstrations. He also helps organize customer training sessions and writes application notes for users.

Xavier joined HORIBA in 2024, bringing with him 23 years of experience at Nestlé, where he started as an intern. He then worked there as a laboratory technician for 7 years, before becoming a technical manager and later the head of the chemistry laboratory for 12 years.
He possesses expertise in several techniques, including post-combustion gas analysis, infrared detection, and thermal conductivity detection (TCD).
Regarding his academic background, Xavier Le Coz holds a DESS (postgraduate diploma) in chemical and microbiological analysis from the Faculty of Chemistry in Strasbourg. He also completed a master’s degree in chemistry in Orléans.
Since joining HORIBA, Xavier has been working on EMIA/EMGA instruments. He nevertheless has 26 years of overall experience in instrumentation.
During his time at Nestlé, he contributed to numerous projects, particularly the accreditation of analytical methods using various techniques. Specifically, he helped draft standard operating procedures, estimate uncertainties, and validate methods (ICP-MS, “flavor” issues in water to identify defects and their sources, analysis of inorganic contaminants in plastics such as PET and PE, and metal speciation). Xavier Le Coz was also a member of a standards committee.
Xavier Le Coz specializes in several areas, including water and water contaminants (mass spectrometry, particularly ICP-MS), inorganic analysis of packaging materials, atomic absorption, GC-MS, analysis of volatile compounds, and ion chromatography.
At HORIBA France, he leads training sessions on EMIA/EMGA gas analyzers and participates in method validation according to the French standard NF T90-210. These training sessions are offered upon request and are fully personalized. They focus on post-combustion gas analysis and are designed for users ranging from beginners to advanced levels.

Xavier works across a wide range of industries, including the materials sector in the broadest sense (pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, the environment, energy, biology, etc.), and analyzes samples made of metal, glass, and ceramics.
« My goal is for participants to gain a thorough understanding of what they are measuring and how the device performs that measurement.»
During his training sessions, Xavier uses a variety of teaching materials and ensures that participants get hands-on experience with the instruments provided.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to numerous ISO 17025 accreditations and to the development of standards-compliant internal methods in the fields of water, beverages, and packaging, using various analytical techniques. He also participated in the development of the ISO/TS 19620:2018 standard. At Nestlé, he was also responsible for “laboratory instructions” aimed at monitoring the consistency of water mineralization.
