Presentation of Xavier Le Coz
Xavier Le Coz: Manager of the Analytical Solution Plaza application laboratory
Xavier Le-Coz leads the Analytical Solution Plaza application laboratory at HORIBA France's center of excellence in Palaiseau. As a specialized application engineer for the EMIA/EMGA series of gas analyzers, his responsibilities involve managing the laboratory's operations, conducting customer visits for demonstrations and sample analyses, and composing application notes to assist users.

Xavier became part of HORIBA in 2024, following a remarkable 23-year career at Nestlé that began with an internship. He spent seven years there as a laboratory technician before advancing to roles such as technical manager and, eventually, head of the chemistry laboratory, a position he held for 12 years. His specialization spans various techniques, including post-combustion gas analysis, infrared detection, and thermal conductivity detection (TCD).
While at Nestlé, he played a key role in several projects, focusing on the accreditation of analytical methods through diverse techniques, contributed to numerous ISO 17025 accreditations. His contributions included drafting standard operating procedures, estimating uncertainties, and validating methodologies such as ICP-MS. He also tackled challenges like identifying flavor issues in water to trace defects and their origins, analyzing inorganic contaminants in plastics like PET and PE, and conducting metal speciation studies. Additionally, Xavier served as a member of a standards committee. He also participated in the development of the ISO/TS 19620:2018 standard.
An impressive academic background, featuring a DESS (postgraduate diploma) in chemical and microbiological analysis from the Faculty of Chemistry in Strasbourg. Additionally, he earned a master’s degree in chemistry from Orléans.
With 26 years of extensive experience in instrumentation, Xavier brings expertise in various specialized areas, including water analysis and water contaminants using techniques such as mass spectrometry (particularly ICP-MS), inorganic analysis of packaging materials, atomic absorption, GC-MS for volatile compound detection, and ion chromatography. His work spans across diverse industries, including pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, environmental science, energy, and biology, along with the broader materials sector. He routinely analyzes samples made of metal, glass, and ceramics, showcasing his versatility and comprehensive knowledge in these fields.
At HORIBA France, he leads training sessions on EMIA/EMGA gas analyzers and contributes to method validation in compliance with the French standard NF T90-210. These tailored sessions are available upon request and cater to participants of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced users, with a focus on post-combustion gas analysis
« My goal is for participants to gain a thorough understanding of what they are measuring and how the device performs that measurement. »
